| Welcome to the SRDTOOLS Project Website
The research is intended to examine ways to improve the evaluation of regional policies (economic, social and environmental) to improve their contribution to sustainable development. In particular, the research will examine ways of dealing with the 'apples and pears' problem where the impacts of policies are defined in different ways, preventing direct comparison and aggregation. The work will focus on regional policy choices that represent the resolution of major trade-offs for sustainable regional development. The SRDTOOLS project will directly inform the design and application of evaluation methods of prospective cohesion policies and programmes in order to achieve sustainable regional development objectives. More specifically, the research will develop approaches to ex-ante appraisal, for specific use in the context of the post-2006 Structural Funds Programme. More>> SRDTOOLS builds on the Thematic Evaluation of the Contribution of the Structural Funds to Sustainable Development, an evaluation carried out for DG Regional Policy in 2002. SRDTOOLS is funded through the Sixth Framework Programme of DG Research, under Priority 8: Research for Policy Support Area 3.1: Underpinning European Integration, Sustainable Development, Competitiveness, and Trade Policy.
